Project Overview:

  • We have developed a camera-based prototype system that recognizes clothing patterns in four categories (plaid, striped, patternless, and irregular) and identifies a few clothing colors.
  • The system integrates a camera, a microphone, a computer, and a pair of earphones for audio description of clothing patterns and colors to the blind.
  • The clothing patterns and colors are described to blind users verbally.
  • This system can be controlled by speech input through microphone.

Description of MATLAB Project on Sleep detection image processing

The objective was to develop a non-invasive system for detecting the closing of eyes of a person driving an automobile and provide an alarm indication thus preventing road accidents from occurring. Live video relay of the driver’s eyes is processed using Image Processing in MATLAB to detect whether the eye is closed for more than a fixed duration thus indicating conditions of fatigue, alcohol consumption etc. The system proves to be more accurate and safe compared to the existing sleep detection system developed using Infrared Sensors and Micro-processors.

Description of MATLAB Project on OFDM Transmitter and Receiver

OFDM is a Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing technique. In this project we will be developing OFDM Transmitter chain used in fixed WiMAX as per IEEE 802.16-2004 Specifications for downlink chain. In the WiMAX system there are two basic components CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) and BS (Base Station). The transmission from BS to CPEs is called as downlink and transmission from CPEs to BS is called as uplink. The OFDM physical layer transmitter consists of scrambler, Reed Solomon encoder, convolution encoder, puncturing, Interleaver, data mapping(data modulation), OFDM symbol formation, 256 point IFFT , cyclic prefix(CP) insertion module. This transmitter generated baseband IQ data which is inserted to DAC and RF part before transmission in the air. The other OFDM standards which also can be implemented are WLAN (802.11a/b) and L-band Digital Aeronautical Communication System (LDACS).

Description of MATLAB Project on Audio Based Application Control

Under this project, we are using a common controller for the basic home appliances. The controller has an audio input unit to detect the user’s speech. An audio authentication system allows only specific users to access the controller and the devices connected to it. Some specific parameters of the user’s voice are stored in an on-chip memory. Every time a user wants to access the controller, it compares his/her voice’s parameters with those saved in the database. If the parameters match, the user can control the devices using voice commands.

MIMO stands for Multiple Input Multiple Output technique. It is employed as part of physical layer for various upcoming wireless technologies viz. Mobile Wimax and LTE. It has several advantages based on MIMO type viz. STBC, SM. STBC (Space Time Block Coding) helps in achieving better coverage by transmitting multiple symbols of the same data while SM (Spatial Multiplexing) transmits multiple data stream simultaneously to achieve higher data rate. LDACS is used as L-band Digital Aeronautical Communication System. It is basically communication mechanism between Air Craft Stations and Ground Station system. There are two versions of LDACS viz. LDACS1 and LDACS2. LDACS1 is based on OFDM modulation scheme and supports FDD topology. LDACS2 is based on GSM and supports TDD configuration. Long Term Evolution (LTE) is an advanced standard technology of the mobile communication systems. LTE has been developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). The new features exhibited by this technology is a direct impact of applying new modulation and coding techniques such as the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) for the Downlink and the Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) for the Uplink as well as turbo coding. This paper presents implementation of the transmitter of the LTE downlink physical layer according to releases 8 and 9 Using MATLAB/Simulink analysis tool. DL-SCH includes five steps of CRC, segmentation, second CRC, turbo coding and rate matching. PDSCH includes steps of scrambling, modulation mapping, layer mapping, pre-coding, resource mapping and OFDM. Also, paper presents the reduction of PAPR using PTS algorithm.

COFDM is the combination of OFDM and CDMA concepts. It utilizes advantages of both the CDMA and OFDM modulation techniques to serve better BER. Total number of users simulated are four with provision to extend to N users. Both time domain and frequency domain spreading is applied to the mapped data.
